March Newsletter: Upcoming Events at First Lutheran Church

As we move through the season of Lent and approach the celebration of Easter, there are many opportunities for worship, fellowship, and service at First Lutheran Church. Members and friends of the congregation are invited to participate in several upcoming events that strengthen our community and deepen our faith.

One important milestone coming up is the Rite of Confirmation, which will take place on Sunday, March 22 during the 9:00 a.m. worship service. Confirmation marks a significant moment in the faith journey of our students as they affirm their baptism and their commitment to Christ and the church. The congregation is encouraged to attend and support these young people as they celebrate this meaningful step in their lives of faith.

Looking ahead to Holy Week, we will gather together for several special services that commemorate the central events of our faith. Palm Sunday worship will be held on March 29 at 9:00 a.m., beginning the week that leads us to the cross and the empty tomb. On Maundy Thursday, April 2 at 7:00 p.m., we will remember Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples and reflect on his command to love and serve one another. Our Good Friday service will take place on April 3 at 7:00 p.m., providing a time for prayer and reflection on Christ’s sacrifice. The week culminates with the joyful celebration of Easter Sunday on April 5 at 9:00 a.m., when we gather to proclaim the resurrection of our Lord.

In addition to worship services, there are several opportunities for fellowship and ministry throughout the month. Our CEO “Come Eat Out” group will meet on Thursday, March 26 at 5:30 p.m. at Pontiac Family Kitchen for food, fellowship, and conversation. This is a relaxed gathering open to anyone who would like to share a meal together.

Youth in 6th grade through high school are invited to attend a Pizza Making Fellowship Night on Friday, March 20 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. in the church Fellowship Hall. This event will include pizza-making, games, and time to connect with friends in a fun and welcoming environment.

Those who enjoy friendly competition are encouraged to join the church’s Euchre nights, which take place on the first and third Mondays of the month. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., and play begins at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $4 per person, and everyone is welcome, whether you are an experienced player or just learning the game.

Looking ahead to summer, planning is already underway for Vacation Bible School, which will be held June 1–5 from 8:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. This year’s theme is “Rainforest Falls – Exploring the Nature of God.” Volunteers are needed to help make this important ministry possible, and anyone interested in helping is encouraged to attend the VBS planning meeting on March 5 at 7:00 p.m.

Finally, throughout the Lenten season the congregation is supporting a Water Mission project, helping bring safe drinking water to communities around the world. Members are invited to contribute to this effort as we reflect on Christ’s call to serve others.

As always, First Lutheran Church welcomes everyone to participate in worship, service, and fellowship. These gatherings remind us that faith is not something we practice alone, but something we live together as a community centered on Christ.
