August at First Lutheran Church
August is a busy month of worship, service and fellowship at First Lutheran Church. The congregation continues to gather for Sunday worship at 9:00 a.m., followed by Sunday School at 10:25 a.m. Throughout the month, members are also encouraged to support one another through prayer, visits, “Thinking of You” cards and transportation assistance for anyone who needs help getting to church.
Several ministries are actively serving both the congregation and the wider community. First Lutheran is collecting supplies for Lutheran World Relief School Kits through September, including notebooks, rulers, pencils, pens, crayons, erasers, sharpeners and safety scissors. Donations are also being gathered for the local food pantry, with a special need for personal-care products, paper goods, cleaning supplies, children’s cereal, peanut butter, canned meals, soups and pasta sauce. The Comforting Ladies have resumed their regular quilting schedule, meeting Tuesday afternoons and Saturday mornings to create items that bring warmth and care to others.
There are also many opportunities for fellowship during August. Euchre nights will be held on August 3 and 17, with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. and play beginning at 6:30 p.m. The CEO “Come Eat Out” group will meet at Route 66 Restaurant in Dwight on Tuesday, August 25, at 5:30 p.m. Choir rehearsals resume on Thursday, August 27, at 6:00 p.m., and members are invited to consider serving during worship as communion assistants, ushers, greeters or members of the Altar Guild.
Noah’s Ark Preschool is preparing for another school year, with classes beginning after Labor Day. The classroom is being refreshed with new storage bins, learning materials and a dramatic-play center, and openings remain in the three-year-old midday class and the four-year-old afternoon class. The church is also preparing for future leadership, as the Nominating Committee seeks individuals interested in serving on the Church Council. Together, these ministries and gatherings reflect First Lutheran’s continuing mission of “Worshiping Christ, Serving Our Neighbor.”
