February at First Lutheran Church: Walking in the Light Together

  • Feb 1
  • 2 min read

As February unfolds, First Lutheran Church continues to live out its calling of Worshiping Christ and Serving Our Neighbor, even in the heart of winter. This month’s reflections, ministries, and gatherings center on Christ as the Light who shines into every season of life—bringing hope, healing, and peace.

A Light That Shines in the Darkness

Our February devotion draws from Isaiah’s powerful promise that those who walk in darkness will see a great light—a promise fulfilled in Jesus Christ, the Sun of Righteousness. In a world still marked by fear, grief, and uncertainty, we are reminded that Christ has already conquered sin and death. Through Him, we live not in shadow, but in forgiveness, guidance, and peace. As His people, we are called to reflect that light in our words, actions, and care for one another.

Lenten Mission Focus: Water Mission International

As we prepare to enter the season of Lent, our Mission Social Committee has selected Water Mission International as our 2026 Lenten mission project. This Christian engineering organization provides safe water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions to communities around the world, including areas impacted by disaster. More information about how to support this mission will be shared as Lent approaches.

Ash Wednesday

We will observe Ash Wednesday on February 18 with two worship services at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm, led by Rev. Jay Johnson. These services mark the beginning of Lent and invite us into a season of reflection, repentance, and renewal.

Sunday School continues for children ages 3 through junior high from 10:25–11:15 am, offering a space where young hearts can grow in prayer and faith.

Our Joyful Women Bible study resumes on Sunday, February 1 at 6:30 pm in the Munson Room. This seven-week study, Living in God’s Will, is based on the book of Ruth and is open to all women of the church and their friends.

Serving with Love

Our ministries of care continue faithfully throughout the month. The Comforting Ladies are back at work quilting, and Knitwits meet weekly to serve others through handmade items. We also remain deeply grateful for the ongoing generosity shown toward the Livingston County Community Food Pantry, which continues to meet growing needs in our area. February donations focus especially on personal care items and non-perishable foods, though all contributions are appreciated.

Fellowship & Community Life

February offers many opportunities for connection and fellowship:

  • Euchre Nights on the 1st and 3rd Mondays

  • CEO “Come Eat Out” Group on February 24 at Monical’s Pizza

  • Choir rehearsals, confirmation classes, committee meetings, and planning sessions throughout the month

If transportation to church is ever a challenge, assistance is available—please contact the church office so we can help coordinate a ride.

Looking Ahead: VBS Planning

A Vacation Bible School planning meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 11 at 7:00 pm. Participation and interest will help determine whether VBS will be offered this June, making this meeting especially important as we continue sharing God’s Word with our children and community.

February reminds us that even in the cold and quiet months, Christ’s light is active among us in worship, service, learning, and fellowship. We invite you to join us as we walk together in faith, trusting that the Light still shines.
