Pontiac, IL — The First Lutheran Sanctuary Choir will present Hope Has Dawned, Noel!, a new Christmas cantata by acclaimed composer Mary McDonald, on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church. Narration will be provided by Mary Ann Johnson.

This year’s performance will feature a string quintet comprised of faculty members from Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan University, joining the Sanctuary Choir to bring McDonald’s score to life with professional artistry and warmth. Their collaboration will add a rich, orchestral dimension to the program’s blend of traditional carols and original music.

Fresh for the 2025 season, Hope Has Dawned, Noel! is a 40-minute Christmas work that pairs vibrant new songs with thoughtfully re-imagined carols, moving from tender reflection to triumphant celebration of Christ’s birth.
