All Saints' Sunday – November 1

1 min read

This Sunday, November 1, we celebrate All Saints' Day, a special day in the life of the Church when we remember and give thanks for the faithful Christians who have gone before us.

As part of our worship this coming Sunday, we invite everyone to light a candle in memory of a loved one who has passed away. Each candle serves as a visible reminder of the lives that have touched ours and the light of Christ that continues to shine, even in the midst of grief.

In the Lutheran tradition, a saint is not simply someone who lived an extraordinary life, but anyone who has been made holy through faith in Jesus Christ. All Saints' Day reminds us that we are united with believers of every generation through what we confess in the Apostles' Creed as the communion of saints.

The North American Lutheran Church (NALC) honors this tradition by remembering the faithful witnesses who have gone before us and celebrating God's promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. It is a day of both remembrance and hope. Although we mourn those we have lost, we rejoice in the promise that death does not have the final word.

As we gather for worship this Sunday, we give thanks for the lives of those who have shaped our faith and remember that, through Christ, we are all part of God's eternal family.
